چکیده

Introduction As of today, the use of MRI procedures on patients with implanted cardiac pacemakers is prohibited due to safety issues. The implants can interact with the RF fields of the MRI device. The most hazardous effect is heating at the tip of the lead, less dangerous are sensing errors and malfunctions of the devices, because they disappear completely after the procedure. The majority of the previous studies used classic cylindrical whole-body MRI systems. The influence of different alignments of the pacemaker/lead system and the RF fields were evaluated by comparing temperature changes occurring in a cylindrical device with the effects induced in a high field open MRI (HFO) system.

Temperature measurements of pacemaker leads in a 1.0T high field open MRI using various MR sequences: initial results

Introduction Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a valuable diagnostic method for many cardiovascular diseases. To date, patients with pacemakers are contra-indicated for cardiac MRI exams due to several effects that can occur during the MRI procedure: a) heating of the lead-tip, and b) less hazardous sensing errors and device malfunctions. Almost all measurements on MRI pacemaker compatibility...

Comparison of left and right ventricular dimensions, systolic and diastolic function between 1.0T Open MRI and 1.5T cylindrical MRI

Background Cardiac MRI is the reference standard for cardiac morphology and functional assessment of left and right ventricular (LV,RV) end-diastolic and -systolic volumes (EDV, ESV), stroke volume (SV), ejection fraction (EF) and myocardial mass (Mass) due to its high image resolution tissue differentiation. Because of its cylindrical shape and resulting spatial restrictions, a significant amo...

Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging using an open 1.0T MR platform: a comparative study with 1.5T

Background Cardiac MRI (cMRI) has evolved as the non-invasive reference standard for accurate and highly reproducible determination of cardiac function and myocardial viability. Thus, cMRI is widespread and increasingly utilized in the clinical practice. The introduction of open high-field (HFO) MR scanners offers advantages not only for imageguided interventions, examinations of patients with ...

Feasibility of high dose dobutamine stress and scar imaging in high field open MRI in patients with suspected coronary artery disease

Background High-dose dobutamine-stress magnetic resonance (DSMR) and late gadolinium enhanced cardiac magnetic resonance (LGE-CMR) imaging are well established for the detection of significant cardiovascular disease (CAD) and infarction for cylindrical 1.5 T or 3T. Due to the narrow bore, patients (pts) with obesity or claustrophobia usually cannot be studied with conventional MRI scanners. 1.0...

Evaluation of MRI-based MAGIC polymer gel dosimeter in small photon fields

Background: Accurate small radiation field dosimetry is essential in modern radiotherapy techniques such as stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT). Precise measurement of dosimetric parameters such as beam profile, percentage depth doses and output factor of these beams are complicated due to the electron disequilibrium and the steep dose gradients. In the p...
